       Assembling a diverse group of individuals that typically are in conflict within a highly charged regulatory venue is a tenuous and challenging initiative. The first Summit set the stage for overcoming the  traditional conflicts.  With constructive and progressive dialogue among delegates, stimulated by informed advisors, the following long term objectives are envisioned:
 
  • Enhance awareness and understanding of varying perspectives on the elements of a sustainable Gulf of Mexico shrimp industry.
  • Identify areas of common interest among diverse groups associated with the Gulf of Mexico shrimp industry.
  • Reinvigorate the formal relationships between the Mexican and U.S. shrimp fisheries.
  • Clarify conflicting issues among diverse groups associated with the Gulf of Mexico shrimp industry.
  • Identify and evaluate potential for common efforts toward achieving elements of a sustainable Gulf of Mexico shrimp industry.
  • Identify areas that are candidates for an alternative dispute resolution process.
  • Develop or enhance personal relationships with leadership of groups integrated into the sustainability of the Gulf of Mexico shrimp industry.
  • Develop a strategic plan for the sustainability of the Gulf of Mexico shrimp industry.
  • Maintain database and contact with delegates, advisors and interested observers for continuation of initiatives to achieve the strategic plan.
