| Over the period
March 6-8, 2003, the Gulf of Mexico & Caribbean regional Sea
Grant College Programs hosted a "Summit for the Sustainability
of the Gulf of Mexico Shrimp Industry." The basic format of
the summit was to bring together leaders of the shrimp industry,
government, and related interest groups to consider those elements
critical to sustainability of the Gulf of Mexico shrimp industry.
A total of 53 delegates from both the
United States of America and the Republic of Mexico participated
in the three day summit. In addition, a total of 84 advisors, observers
and presenters were also present for the activity.
The Summit for the Sustainability of the Gulf
of Mexico Shrimp Industry was never considered to be a "one
shot" event. It is intended that delegates and other participants
will be engaged in activities to work toward the goal of a sustainable
industry. As supplemental events or activites are planned, information
will be disseminated via this website and supplemental mailings. |
